GREENSUGAR is a five piece
Blues Rock N’ Roll band from Chicago, IL. First spawned
in Los Angeles in 2003, the band began its modern incarnation in
2007 when singer/guitar player PARKER DODSON returned to Chicago in search of the Blues and Rock roots that still pump through the Windy City.
Enlisting childhood friend JON
PATRICK LUBY to fill the drum chair, the two immediately retreated to the
shores of Lake Geneva WI, where their similar tastes in music and passion for
organic, classic style Rock N’ Roll spawned the songs from the band’s 2007
release, GENESIS.
Following the release the
band played some 60 plus shows as a trio over the next six months, until one evening
during sound check at Chicago’s famed DOUBLE DOOR the guys heard guitar player MICHAEL
STARCEVIC playing a masterful version of the song “Time” by Pink Floyd. This forever altered the history of the
band. Within a week the “Power trio”
format the band had been employing had been abandoned in favor of a meatier,
more powerful twin guitar attack. Fueled
by the infusion of Starcevic’s thick,
Southern style licks, the band went into the studio in the spring of 2008 with
Producer/Engineer KENDALL STEPHENS (Buddy Guy) and put out the POWER SNAIL
SESSIONS as an announcement to Chicago that Gritty, Bluesy, Stomp Rock N Roll
had returned to Chicago.
That fall while road-testing
the songs throughout the Midwest, the band discovered that Starcevic’s roommate ERICK
FROSETH was actually an accomplished drummer/percussionist in his own
right. Once he began to play off of
Luby’s powerful groove-based drumming, the band’s double drum sound quite
literally began to thunder.
Fatefully enough, it was
during this time period of intense rehearsal and metamorphosis that the band
discovered bassist JASON ROLLINS. From
casual conversations between the band and Rollins in the halls of the rehearsal
studio a common bond was forged centered around a desire to bring the music
world back from its current depraved state and re-store Rock N’ Roll to its
rightful position: on the throne.
With Rollins officially on
board by December ‘08, the band finished out the year in rehearsals and jam sessions
blending their individual sounds and talents into one massive organic blend of Blues
and Rock N’ Roll which most now know as the modern sound of GREENSUGAR.
The band thus began 2009 with
a singular focus that anyone who’s seen their 10+ shows a month can attest to,
and in April returned to the studio with Stephens where they released their
newest effort GORILLA FINGERS. The songs
speak of hope and irony, and the experiences the band have undergone and are
now the foundation for the band’s electric live set, which has been seen alongside
such Rock N Roll Icons as WARREN HAYNES and GOV’T MULE, LES CLAYPOOL, and THE
BLACK CROWES. The band is now currently
on tour throughout the Midwest and hoping for the opportunity to change your
mind…about everything.
