About Oral Compensation

Oral Compensation was founded by and is operated by Bean, who began her soul exposing song writing at a very young age. Performing on stages since she was a small child, music has been her life and greatest passion.

After struggling along for several years in various cover bands, Bean found her home in 1998, in a genre mixed with punk, hard rock, progressive rock, flavours of goth at times, and definite flavours of metal. Her style is a mix of angry, biting lyrics, hard hitting vocals, and menacing guitar riffs, it is creative and unlike any other female fronted band on the market right now.

In 2006, she began working with her first producer and lead guitarist, recording her own originals, and writing new materials, and began her own project, which was the birth of Oral Compensation.

"My husband is the one that came up with the name for the band," says Bean with a smile. "The minute I heard it, I knew it was the perfect name for my band. He had one definition, and I had an entirely different meaning to the name, and of course I am just enough of a bad girl, to not really give a damn what definition you think I mean."

She means it too. Seldom will you meet a more hard core rocker chic then Bean, from her constantly changing hair colours and styles, to her tattoos and piercings, to her quirky way of dressing, to just the way she carries herself.

Every song is written by Bean lyrically and almost all songs have been written by her musically.  She is hands on during the musical arrangements of songs, lending chordal structures, melodies, etc. "I've always taken pride in the fact that I wrote all my own music. The lead guitarist would always have free rein on his input, and would help with some of the key hooks in some of the songs, but I was the one that came up with the lyrics, the melody, sometimes the chord structures. Sometimes I have even sung the idea to my lead guitarist, I'll tell him the sound we need and we work on it until that sound is achieved. Or at least that's how it first started, now I have a better grasp on my guitar playing and have been more able to translate my musical ideas into something on the guitar."

The crew consists Bean on lead vocals , her best friend Dave Buck on lead guitar, Master Kem Li on second guita, Bobby "Billy Bob" McAloney on the bass, and Billy "Macaroni" McAloney on drums.  r.  "I feel really great about the group I am putting together now, no more mega egos, drama, bad attitudes, we all seem to have the same ideas and goals." says Bean with a smile. "They're really a talented bunch, and I am honoured and excited to be playing with them.  I haven’t felt so good about a group before, not only musically but personally. Master Ken was just a real natural fit for us.  He is so mellow, easy to be around, always happy, a skater dude, and plays really good.  He just fit right away.  He really compliments the guitar section.  Dave often has more of a metal edge to his sound, even more so then my last guitarist did, and then Master Ken has this AWESOME punk sound to him, and it just is great!!!  Bobby just kind of stepped in and started playing with us like he had always been there.  It was just an automatic yeah this works well type of experience, and Billy, well he actually joined the band before his twin brother Bobby did, and he fit so well into the equation that we wrote a new song while he was trying out.

With my last group I really was held back on music writing for the first time.  All of a sudden the members were all wanting to write the music themselves, and throw input into the vocals.  They started criticizing my lyrics, or my stance on something in a song.  The funniest complaint I heard was that my music was always so dark, but that's just kind of who I am.  No matter how hard I try I can't get the darkenss out of it, and I like it that way.  Maybe all that input works for some bands, and in some situations it has worked for my band, but for me it really started to change the focus and direction of the music, and not in a way I wanted to go.  I started this project, so that I would have an avenue to vent out the music I was writing, and honestly for no other reason. I guess that sounds selfish but it's true.  If I am not writing the music, then I guess I am defeating the whole goal and purpose of the band, eh?"

Bean's song writing abilities make her a strong contender in the world of female rock and even steps it up a notch. Her sound follows no one and is quite unique unto her own. If asked who Oral Compensation sounds like you would have to judge it on a song by song basis; sometimes having a Bif Naked feel, other times Garbage, and still other times Hole. None of her songs sound the same giving Oral Compensation a diverse sound of a little punk, a lotta hard rock, and definite flavours of metal.

When asked what her plans are for Oral Compensation in the future she smiles and replies "To take the world by storm."

They've shared the stage with bands such as October Sky, Wreckin' Crew, Cold Driven, Helcion, Ninja Spy, and many more. Their new producer is Doug Fury, of Fortissimo Studios, in Vancouver, BC, who has produced and was lead guitarist for Bif Naked. In studio no working on their full length album, they hope to release it by the fall of 2009.

They receive regular airplay on PHC Radio, which is a web station based out of Edmonton, Alberta, and on CBC Radio 3 on Sirius and xFM satellite radio.

They'll be rockin' your city real soon!

Their six song disc "Breakin' Through" is available now for $5.00 plus shipping and handling. For purchasing details, send a message to the band. Don't miss your chance to own this CD!!
