I must confess I had not heard the name Clarence Clemons until this weekend.
I had, however heard of Bruce Springsteen, and I had most definitely heard of his definitive songs, Born to Run, featuring the saxophone of the aforementioned Clarence Clemons, who sadly passed away this weekend, following complications after a stroke.
In fact, that's doing a disservice. Born to Run doesn't just FEATURE saxophone, it is the heartbeat, the soul, the essence of the song, summing up the passion and love expressed through the lyrics.
Without the sax ,Born to Run would have simply been another Bruce Springsteen song.
It was sad, as it always is, to hear that a talented musician has passed away. What is even more sad, is that it took his death for me to learn his name, and realize that he was the reason I loved that song in the first place
Lesson to self - listen more, learn more and pay respect where it's due before it's too late.
Sexy pop, indie pop, RnB and electro - another night of hot new music!!
by carolinebeavon, posted 05/10/11 20:31:10
So another night of Breakout music live streaming from London's Proud Galleries on tomorrow night (Wednesday!!)
On the menu tonight - sexy pop, indie pop, RnB and electro ...
Here's the line-up ...
8pm - The Ultra Girls
9pm - Starboy Nathan
10pm - The Jezabels
11pm - More Diamonds
The Ultra Girls:
Sexy pop outfit - expect 4 girls, big hair and plenty of leg. They recently supported the queen of sexy pop Kylie MInogue and are sure to pull out all the stops tonight for the London crowds ...
Starboy Nathan
Formerly just Nathan, this British RnB performer has now added Starboy to his name (for Googling purposes apparently), completed a second album, supported JLS and had a stint in Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack. It's looking good for this fella ...
The Jezabels
Girl fronted indie pop from down under, this Sydney band are following up great success in their home country. Think Florence and the Machine and you're almost there ... definitely worth keeping an eye on
More Diamonds
Bringing some pop-funk-electro tonight - London based outfit More Diamonds. Chanelling the Pet Shop Boys, this band are criminally still unsigned ... watch this space!
Tonight's live stream . who's on the bill ...

Live streaming tonight from 8pm comes from the North West Music Nights ...
So tune in and feast your eyes on some hot new talent ...
London band Angels with Enemies bring their alt rock to the GotSeeN live-stage tonight ... Vowing to be anything but middle of the road, instead they've brought punky snarl, some Queens of the Stone Age riffage, veering into Pantera tinged metal at times ...
Amidst all the punk-at-rock on tonights bill, something a little more pared back. It's great to see Simeon on the bill - I came across her on GotSeeN a few weeks back and was instantly taken with her pared back beautiful vocals!
Whats the deal? One girl, one guitar - what more do you need?
Smug Howlers
Nice melodic punk rock from this lot ... it'd be nice to see them get a profile on GotSeeN (hint hint) but we won't hold that against them!
The Circus District
Rolling guitars, with a funky edge and some fierce girl-vocals ... a nice mixed up sound which works ...
Sunshine Supermen
The funk rock continues with this lot ... a Red Hot Chili Peppers meets Zeppelin sound with some ska punk vibe chucked in for good measure ... watch that slap bass and check out their drummer - Animal from the Muppets would be proud!!!
Summers in bloom .. well, nearly

Is anyone else getting the summer bug a bit early this year?
Maybe it's the welcomed return of the sunshine/ warmth or maybe it's the fact that every band I listen to right now is creating full-on sunshine music - and it feels so so right.
60's beach pop is all the rage right now - remember those movies with girls in cute but HUGE bikinis, probably carrying a beach ball or a basket of sandwiches and ginger beer and generally being wholesome and fun? (oh and not forgetting the fact they can surf too)
Well the garage-pop rock'n'roll soundtrack to those movies is making a comeback. The Drums took it into the charts and now there are a host of other bands behind them trying to catch that wave (sorry, cheesy gag).
And it doesn't stop there as there is definitely a lot of love toward the 60's generally right now. Rock n rolls twisted little cousin rockabilly started to bubble up over the winter - The Jim Jone Revue started to get some attention, and you can find the very wonderful Vinny and the Curse right hereon GotSeen
Can you suggest any other bands worth checking out on GotSeeN harking back to the 60's for influence?
